beastie boys release short film.

The Beastie Boys have release their highly anticipated short film ‘Fight For Your Right - Revisited’. The 30 minute short is a ‘sequel’ to their 1987 music video for their breakthrough hit ‘Fight for Your Right’. In an interview for Australian radio station Triple J, founding member Mike D described the movie as ‘a period video that picks up where the ‘Fight for Your Right’ video left off.

The film stars a who’s who of comedy. Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, John C Reilly, Jack Black and Elijah Wood stars as members of the Beastie Boys. Elijah Wood seems like the odd one, he doesn’t have any connection with the other besides them probably having seen Lord of the Rings. Casting James Franco in his place would be a more logical option. Not only does he have strong connection with the other actors especially McBride and Rogen but he is funnier and a better actor. He probably was offered the role but it could’ve been his extremely busy schedule that prevented him from appearing. James Franco is a modern ‘renaissance man’. I’m not saying Wood is a bad choice. He is the best rapper out of the cast, his lip-syncing to the ‘Make Some Noise’ was superb but beside that his role was limited in comparison to the other Beastie Boys ‘members’. Ferrell, Rogen and McBride were the main star of the film in my opinion. The short film also contained ALOT of cameos. Rashida Jones, Ted Danson, Orlando Bloom and even the Beastie Boys themselves make an appearance in the video just to name a few.

The short film ties in to their new album ‘Hot Sauce Committee Part 2’ which is out on May 3. Watch ‘Fight For Your Right - Revisited’ in full in the post below. And also look out for my album review of ‘Hot Sauce Committee Part 2’ in the next couple of days. Peace Out.

Hello I’m Khen and I’m an audiophile. Welcome to ‘Brand Spanking New’, a blog about new music more specifically new indie tunes. A night with Vampire Weekend

I was extremely excited when Vampire Weekend announced they were playing a show in Adelaide as part of their Australia tour culminating in the Groove in the Moo festival. Rarely has a good Indie band included Adelaide as part of their Australia tour most of them only do shows in the eastern states while ignoring their fans in the rest of the country. I anticipated Vampire Weekend would be sold out in record time because of their popularity, I even woke up early to go to buy tickets on the sale date expecting a line but no, I got tickets instantly. Fortunately it did sell out a week before the gig which is a good sign because then VW will come back to Adelaide for their next tour and maybe encourage other indie bands to come to this forsaken city. The gig was held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre which had a reservations about, mostly because I thought it was to big, the Thebarton Theartre would be a better venue because of its the premier venue for indie gigs and is more intimate.

The gig opened at 7.15 with Cloud Control starting at 8.15 and VW at 9.15. My friend Tomas and I got to the AEC at 6.15pm to get a good spot for the gig. There was a line already outside the AEC and surprise surprise, the line consisted of 16 year old kids you expect to be at a Bieber concert. Are VW Weekend fans mostly consist of high school students? Maybe its because one of the Jonas brothers was in “Giving up the Gun” music video or maybe drummer Chris Thomson requested Justin Bieber in a video request in a recent interview on Video Hits. When the gates were open the teens ran towards the stage to get a good position for the gig while Tom and I casually walked towards the Merch stand. I purchased a pretty cool ‘White Sky’ t-shirt to add to my collection of band t-shirts. Exactly at 8.15 Cloud Control emerge from the abyss and performed an impressive set. I was excited when it was announce that Cloud Control was the supporting act. I saw them once before at O’Ball, that set was pretty good eventhough the crowd was mediocre. They played ‘Death Cloud’ and ‘Gold Canary’ which are two of my favourite songs at the moment, and finished off with ‘Buffalo’ which you might have heard in a Channel 10 promotion. Cloud Control are my favourite Australia band right now and with the release of their debut album later this month their fan base will increase. The emergence of Vampire Weekend on stand was met with deafening cheers as they begin their extremely impressive set with ‘White Sky’. The set lasted for 90 minutes with ‘Walcott’ the farewell song. It was flawless performance by the band. The crowd was impressive as well, they were very energetic maybe its not a bad thing that the crowd was made up of Bieber fans. My only criticism was that they didn’t play all their songs. They only have two albums and a few B sides so couldn’t they just add three songs to their set list.

Afterwards we headed to Apple nightclub for Chris Baio DJ set. It must be tiring for Baio to do a gig then straight after do a DJ set for an hour. I expected more indie stuff from his DJ set but it was pretty good. I dance my ass off though, haven’t dance like that since…ever. Btw witness a burst water main on Rundle St literally attacking American Apparel. It was excellent night…

Next gig…BRMC? Band of Horses? The Strokes! Can’t wait for July.

No…but that’s another story.

I don’t know dude, who is it?

I saw Tom Green in town having lunch. He was at the Red Rock Noodle Bar on Rundle St, alright food but I thought he would go somewhere classy.

You must be big fan.

Nah not really, haven’t seen any of his stuff, just heard him through word of mouth and saw on tv a couple of times.

Wow you’re such an interesting person.

Thanks, now piss off

This guy…this guy Navid…apparently looks like me. I don’t see it. It must be the face, it’s definitly not the hair.
